| Parker smiled at her, he realized how he missed her humor. Everyone's at the hospital's were often dry and cynical, and Parker found it so uncomfortable at time. Her's was just so...natural? He didn't know what to call it. But it was familiar. And he'd lacked familiar for so long. "Oh, I'm sure you'll do fine with the work load here. And if you ever need help I'm sure any of the staff would want to help. Myself included."
Seeing Pyxis' body language change as she put her hands on her hips and her face turned more serious, Parker had to look away. He felt ashamed for his conditions, that there should have been something he could have done differently in order to change things. But for having basically nothing, it was as good as he could do. "No, Pyxis there's nothing you could have done, understand?" He glanced at her, his eyebrows furrowed.
"I've not had anyone. The only one would have been MaimeĆ³ cause I got her furniture..." He sighed. "I've gotten by, okay? Security charms, learning how to better defend myself, I've been fine for years. And I will be fine. The only way I would move is if I was well enough off for it. And places are so expensive, I don't think that's happening for a long time. It'll help not having to pay for food anymore, and I'm nearly done paying off my training, but even then.. It's just nothing to worry about... " |

| Pyxis smiled genuinely at his offer, it was very sweet of him. She'd forgotten how he'd always been there to help her out, even if he had a massive work-load himself. She ruffled his hair, a familiar gesture that made her heart twinge as she grinned at him. "Aww, you're cute. Don't worry about it, i'll be fine. You know, you always used to help me with my work even when you had tons piled on you. Im a big girl now, you don't have to help me." She almost stuck her tongue out, but remembering his warning she held off.
Pyxis huffed indignantly, she was most displeased with the fact that he still wasn't living in a good area. She moved her hands from her hips to cross her arms in front of her chest and sighed. She'd offer for him to move in with her, but firstly she only had one bedroom, secondly, that'd be a tad awkward and thirdly, she was getting kicked out of her house in the next few weeks. "I know, its just, I can't... hmmph."
"I know, everything is so expensive nowadays. I've been looking for a new place, but apparently I can't afford anything." Pyxis sighed softly, she really didn't want to be homeless, and she had no family to go too. They were all dead, her parents both being only children. She'd simply have to make do, maybe rent for as long as she could. Not that she had any money anymore. |

| Parker smiled and closed his eyes a brief moment as she reached up and ruffled his hair. He laughed a little, "No, no, not cute. Just helpful. And I know," he then nodded, "Just saying that if you ever do- Everyone needs help sometimes." He smiled a little, giving a small shrug.
He looked down as she then crossed her arms, and he sighed. "Can't what? Look even if I had anyone to go to, I'd not be some leech. I'm doing well enough for the nearly nothing I had. I could pay my rent, I've got clothes and I could feet myself most nights. I'm also an adult now and I can take care of myself too." As much as he hated where he lived, it helped him grow as a person. He came to realize that while in many ways he'd changed, there was still some that innocent boy who was fearful and didn't understand the point of being anything but kind and honest, even with all the stuff going on around him. It was still there in him and he knew that because of the acute fear he always felt at certain times in those nights or walking home, the little voice in his mind wondering why things were like this and why did people do the things they did.
He looked back at her "...New place? Why would you move if you can't afford it? Or...can you not afford where you live anymore??" He furrowed his eyebrows, worried. He knew that with her parents divorce she'd lost a lot of the money and the privilege she had before. That must have been so hard on her. But surely she couldn't be that bad off... He wondered how many others were struggling. Had the wars had such an acute effect on the economy...? |

| Pyxis almost giggled at him, and shrugged as she thought of several ways to patronise him, before settling on one. "Whatever you say, sweetums." She cooed, her hand falling from his hair and to her side once more as she grinned at him, before she bit her tongue to stop her instant defence mechanism snapping that she didn't need help from anyone, though her eyes flickered with anger for a moment. She didn't like being thought of as weak, just because she was a girl. "Okay, I guess." She shrugged.
Pyxis sighed, she didn't know what she was going to say. She was just upset that he was struggling, even if she'd struggled too. She'd always been very protective of him, and the fact that he'd been alone in bad parts with people roughing him up - she paused in that thought and felt her entire body slump. Why was someone always beating him up? Even as a child, the kids in his neighbourhood had relentlessly picked on him. Her hands balled into fists as she gritted her teeth together. "Why is it always someone picking on you? Even as a kid?" She growled, looking up at him with concern. "Look, I know there was nothing I could do, okay? I've just, always been very... protective of you, and it annoys me that there was nothing I could've done to protect you." She mumbled, rubbing the back of her neck sheepishly.
Pyxis felt her face go pale and she coughed, staring at the wall behind him, not wanting to lie whilst she looked at his face. She knew she would struggle to if she did. "Oh, um, no reason. I was just looking around, don't worry." She said and grinned in the hopes that he'd just believe everything was fine. |

| Parker sighed, seeing her seem to slump. He really didn't want her to be upset or worry over him. "Pyxis, this isn't bullying or picking on anymore. It's just...something I've learned to live with, and I've accepted that." He put his hand on her shoulder again. "I know, I know. But I brought it upon myself, doing what I did and leaving." He smiled a little. "I wished I could have protected you too. But that's past now. And...now that I'm here, it'll be easier to save money and then maybe I can move in three years time." He then lowered his hand, "get out of that neighborhood in the very least."
Parker furrowed his eyebrows as her body language changed again. She seemed uncomfortable as she spoke, and he could tell something was wrong. He didn't believe it was just fine, and he frowned a bit. He looked down an nodded, realizing he shouldn't really press on it. After the whole thing with her parents, of course she would be struggling. She really didn't deserve to, but there was absolutely nothing he could do that could help.
There was an open window in the back and as they were talking an old barn owl had swooped in and flew over to the perch on Parker's desk. He looked over to it then back at Pyxis, smiling a bit. "I'm sorry. It's from my superior at the hospital, it's probably important." He leaned off from his desk. "Hey, uhm, I'll talk to you later, yeah?" |
