Muggle Studies, Lesson One - First Years Empty
PostSubject: Muggle Studies, Lesson One - First Years   Muggle Studies, Lesson One - First Years EmptyWed Apr 18, 2012 7:29 am

Class List:
Carey Matthews
October Williams
Jamie Wright
Aislin Swandeth

Parker was nervous to say the least. He sighed as he set down a small pile of books next to the class list. He hadn't expected to be a professor, but seeing as their were students waiting to take a class that had no professor, he, of course, offered. While he didn't feel like he was well versed as a professor, he was at least suitable for this position. He was muggleborn, and even as an adult lived more muggle than magical. He would at least be able to provide them with correct information. Though...he still needed a lesson plan.

He shrugged to himself, oh well. He would make today an introduction to himself and to the class overall. He suspected some of the kids would have no clue what they were getting into. But he heard of several students that were muggle raised that took the class. Easy grade for them, but oh well. For his lesson plan he's just base it off the applications they sent in for the class and he would ask them about what they already knew so they could start going over some stuff next lesson. Maybe if a good discussion started they could start right away.

Parker flicked his wand at the door unlocking it to allow the students in, hopeful for his first lesson ever. He then waved his wand at the board and 'Muggle Studies' was written on it in scrawl. He narrowed his eyes at it a bit. He really needed to work on his handwriting. He had such stereotypical doctor writing it was almost funny...

Jamie knew that people would wonder why on EARTH a muggle-born wanted to take Muggle Studies, but Jamie would like to know more about her world from a Wizard's point of view. Besides, maybe this is how she'd learn about how everything worked in her own world, she'd always just taken everything for granted. Jamie yawned and rubbed at her eyes, the lessons had made her tired for the day. She ran her brush through her hair as she hummed, before she pulled it up into a ponytail and held it back with a hair-tie. She pulled out a few strands to frame her face and stuck a daisy hair-pin in her hair.

Jamie walked over to her bedside table where her muggle studies book was. She picked it up off of the table and slid it into her bag. She zipped up the bag and slung it over her shoulder, a small smile directed at a Hufflepuff who'd just entered the dorm. She slipped out the door and into the common room, where she crawled through the tunnel and out to the kegs. She pushed them out of her way and heard them slide shut behind her. She walked along to the muggle studies classroom and smiled shyly at the professor before she hurried to a seat at the front.

Sophie walked into class. She was excited she was going to be good at this class. All her family were muggles after all. She smiled at the teacher and tried to read the board. She couldn't. This teacher needed to work on his writing.

She saw the other girl there and went to her. "Hey." She said smiling at her. She was polite. She sat next to her and looked at the desk.

Aislin hummed as she strode down the corridor, her step bouncing a little. She was really enjoying Hogwarts so far; she hoped every year and day she spent in this giant castle was as brilliant as it was now. Aislin rounded the corner and stepped into the classroom, setting her books down on a desk.

She looked around and noticed two girls sitting there already, certainly somewhat awkwardly, and turned her attention to the board. Aislin could only just make out the Professor's handwriting, but that was because her mother's scrawl was always so messy anyway.

Carey yawned as he made his way to the class room. He wasn't all that interested in learning about muggles, but with all this 'tolerance' stuff his mother spewed out constantly, she had forced him to take the class. She said it was good for his moral fiber or something equally ridiculous. He was sure there could be something more interesting to fill his time up with. Whatever, it was better then dealing with some bogus astronomy or something like that.

He walked into the class and took a seat near by the girl he had met on the train. "Hey, mind if I sit here?" he asked as he looked up at the professor. What a chump. This would definitely be boring. It'd probably be some lame intro lesson too. He groaned and set his head down on the table.

Aislin glanced up when a bored-looking Carey sat beside her. "No, go for it," she said. She was starting to think that he really didn't care about a lot, he always had that aura about him.

She rolled her eyes as he groaned and put his head on the desk. "Don't you like Muggles?" Aislin queried.

Carey sighed and raised his head enough to slide his arms under and turn his head to look at her. "I don't really care to be honest...I just have a feeling I'm going to be really bored..."

Carey wasn't too sure what he thought, if he really cared or not. They weren't a part of his life at all. His mother always preached tolerance of muggles, and sometimes Carey found himself wishing the worlds were just integrated so they'd not have to worry about secrecy and all those sort of laws. A lot of times, worrying about what muggles were up to just seemed like more of a pain then anything else.

Muggle Studies, Lesson One - First Years Empty
PostSubject: Re: Muggle Studies, Lesson One - First Years   Muggle Studies, Lesson One - First Years EmptyThu Apr 19, 2012 7:48 am

Parker stood at the front of the room, smiling as all the students filed in. He glanced at the class list and saw that for now it would be a small class. He rolled his wand between his hands nervously, smiling at the Hufflepuff girl that took a seat in the front row. Shortly after a Gryffindor girl came in and sat beside her, saying hello. He didn't mind talking at all as long as it wasn't when he was teaching or a discussion would be going on. He hoped he could handle the class, these two girls so far didn't seem so rowdy.

He smiled at another Gryffindor student that entered and set her stuff down and nodded to the first slytherin boy that entered the room. He frowned a little as he looked around, noticing all the girls were squinting at the board. He looked back at his writing and squinted himself. "Wow, I'm really sorry. I can't even read that..." He went to raise his wand to erase the board but then stopped. "You know. This being muggle studies class, I'm going to ban us all from using our wands." He sighed and turned around, setting his wand on his desk. He then dug around in a drawer of it and pulled out an eraser and chalk. He took the few steps to the board and then erased everything on it. He the started to write more carefully and slowly.

-Intro
-What is?
-To Learn
He turned back around and smiled a bit, point to the first one. "Okay, so easy enough. Lets make it quick too. I'll go first." He lowered his hand and put the chalk down. "Well, I'm Parker Emery. I'm also the school's healer, so you can just call me Healer Emery. I'm finishing the last three years of my training here at the school. I was a Slytherin and...well I can't think of anything else." he smiled a little and looked out over the few students. "Whoever wants can go next."

Jamie smiled back at the professor before she stared at her hands in her lap. She stayed completely silent as the other students filed in and was most glad when a friendly looked Gryffindor sat next to her. She didn't want to be awkwardly on her own with no one to talk to- as she knew that Rubi wasn't talking this class. She had been scared of attending it when she found out that, but now she had calmed down more and smiled at the Gryffindor girl shyly. "Hello." She said back, but then Carey walked in and she frowned.

Jamie turned her attention back to the teacher and sighed as yet again they had to introduce themselves. It was harder when Rubi didn't start off and was there to be supportive and laugh at her shyness in an affectionate manner. She cleared her throat quietly. "I-I'm Jamie, Jamie Wright. I'm a muggle-born H-Hufflepuff, and I was born in Liverpool b-but I live in P-Peterborough now w-with my t-twin." She stared down at her hands as she spoke.

Muggle Studies, Lesson One - First Years Empty
PostSubject: Re: Muggle Studies, Lesson One - First Years   Muggle Studies, Lesson One - First Years EmptySat Apr 21, 2012 11:18 am

[[OOC: Sorry guys, I just wanted to move on and keep the lesson going so we can finish. Sorry for my inactivity. Other students when you post, please just give the little intro and participate to the best of your ability, even if I move on. I'll acknowledge everyone. Smile Thanks! Remember, give a chance for others to participate and you can just call out your answers.]]

Parker smiled down at the shy little Hufflepuff in the front row as she cleared her throat. She reminded him a lot of himself his first year, though he would always sit in the back. While she definitely was shy, she seemed to have a part of her that did want to come out. "Ah, Ms. Wright, fellow muggleborn here." he said lightly, trying to help her out. He nodded, listening. "Oh, a twin? Who is she?" He asked, hoping to get a bit more out of her as the other students also gave their introductions.

After they were done with that, he turned back to the board, grabbing the chalk and crossing the first thing off. "Alright, so now that that's out of the way...what is muggle studies?" he set the chalk back down and faced the class again. "Obviously, we're going to be going over muggle culture and technology. We may go over some muggle history and discuss any other little things relating to muggles you can think of. I myself am a muggleborn and for a while after school I continued to live muggle. So, once we get going you guys can ask my anything, and I'm always available after class." He took a breath, hoping he'd not lost them. "The most important thing in that class is to understand that muggles are not so different from us at all and they're important to our own lives." He smiled and nodded at the end of that. He then sighed.

"So... now I want to know, What are some of the things you guys are most interested in learning about? I bet learning about technology is up there, but give me something else. Maybe a certain time in history relating to ours? Something else like that?" His eyes roamed over the students, awaiting their answers.

Jamie flushed as he spoke directly to her and smiled weakly. When asked who her twin was, she looked at the doorway as if Rubi herself would burst through, and her eyes were filled with a hopeful look. When it seemed that Rubi wouldn't come ot her rescue, she looked back to Healer Emery. "Erm - her name i-i-is Rubi... R-Ru-bi W-W-wri-i-ight." Jamie said, her eyes on her hands which were clasped together.

Jamie looked around as it seemed no one else was really up to responding to his question. She wondered what she wanted to learn about - mainly about technology itself and see how the wizarding world saw technology and stuff like that. "W-w-we-ll, erm, I'd like to l-l-learn how technology works, we never really learnt t-that at school." Jamie stuttered.

Carey crossed his arms, listening to Jamie as she introduced herself. Carey rolled his eyes after her stuttering which the teacher apparently found endearing or something. It was really pathetic. He sighed and stood up, seeing that no one else was going. Honestly, did no one have any speaking abilities?? He cleared his throat, "Carey Matthews. I'm a pureblood, and live on a property in Londerderry, Northern Ireland. I've an older brother...Ripley, who was in Ravenclaw. Both my parents went here as well. My mother was in Hufflepuff, my father in Ravenclaw." He glanced around the room then sat back down with a sigh.

He covered his hand with his mouth, yawning as the teacher went on about what they'd be learning. Hmm, what would he want to learn about? While the class seemed like it would be boring, muggles themselves often weren't. He furrowed his eyebrows, havign to listen to the jarring stuttering still. What the hell was wrong with her. She was loud and obnoxious and way too confident. Where did this behavior even come from? He smiled a bit. She was muggleborn...and didn't even know how technology worked?? Wow.

Carey then spoke up. "What about their views on magic, or...magical creatures or other unexplained things to them like that?" He paused, another though coming to mind. "And for history...what was their views on the witch trials? And with Joan of Arc?" Carey was interested. He only ever was given the magical perspective of things. He had no clue what he would do if weird unexplained phenomenon happened to him. He wondered what went on in their minds?

PostSubject: Re: Muggle Studies, Lesson One - First Years   Muggle Studies, Lesson One - First Years EmptyTue Apr 24, 2012 7:52 am

Parker nodded, listening patiently to hear her response. He hoped that like him, she'd one day come out of her shell more. Having a sibling, here with her especially he thought would really help her. He smiled when she brought up how technology worked. "Ah, yes, the workings of technology. It's complicated. A lot of muggle children, and many muggle adults don't even know how it works. Well it's a thing I've called 'muggle magic' before, electricity and radio waves and all those sorts of things." He said, nodding. "We'll be dedicating a lesson to that next year. Though, I know how many of you are just dying to learn about it." he smiled a bit and then looked at the unamused Slytherin in the room. He hoped he'd not cause problems...the way he held himself reminded him of the kids in his years.

He watched him rise and begin his introduction. He smiled, "Oh, wow, really? I live in Belfast- The opposite side of Northern Ireland." he said interestedly. He remembered he knew a boy from there when he was younger too.

"That's a great one, Mr. Matthews! Something like that was actually going to be our next lesson. Muggle views. And our muggleborns can especially help out with the lesson too." He smiled and looked at the clock on the wall. "Oh, well it seems our lesson has come to an end!" he looked back to the class. "Next lesson, be prepared with some questions and/ or information to take part in the discussion about muggle views on magic. I might have you turn in some bullet points at the end of the next lesson. Also- from now on I'll reward points to every person that participates." he smiled, glancing over to Jamie. "As much as Ms. Wright here wants to talk, I want everyone else to join in too."

"Alright, class is dismissed, have a nice weekend everyone." Parker sighed, watching as the students packed up. He thought he did well for his first lesson. This was a lot of fun. He turned back to the board and erased what was on there. The then started to write.

House Points:
none

Homework:
bullet points on muggle views on magic

Due Date:
at the end of the next lesson
