| Tess was really excited, she was getting a mentee. She would kiss anyone that allowed her to get one; she realized that would have been Chale and she immediately erased the thought.
'Screw whoever told me I wasn't good enough, or professional enough to get one.' she thought.
She wrinkled her nose when she realized how childish that sounded and grabbed the folder of her mentee. Jenna Simple-Renour; 19, and recent graduate at Hogwarts. She smiled slightly seeing that Jenna really reminded her of herself. Tapping her fingers against the reception desk, she waited for Jenna to arrive.

| Jenna practically skipped along to the fifth floor; she was getting a new mentor. Marcus was on long-service leave and she particularly thought he really deserved it. Jenna was really quite excited; she didn't know many of the other healers and mediwizards at the hospital yet and was eager to meet them. After all, she would be working here full time as soon as possible (if it was up to her).
She rounded the corner and saw a tall, dark-haired lady flipping through a folder with her name on it. This must be Tess! Jenna thought excitedly. The next thought that crossed Jenna's mind was how pretty she was. She grinned and stopped right in front of her and held out her hand.
"My name's Jenna," she said sweetly. |

| Tess lifted her head and smiled kindly to the blond as she put the file on her clipboard. Her excited demeanor, and her eyes shining brightly told her that this was definitely her mentee and a person excited about a new prospective career.
"Hello Jenna, I'm Tess Black, head of pediatrics wing" she said brightly as she shook her hand. "not to mention your mentor. Come on, we can chat in my office."
She wanted to be as professional as possible, but no one could prevent her from hiding her grin. She was smug as she walked across Anderson who glared at her before closing his office.

| Jenna could see intelligence and warmth brimming in the eyes of her new mentor as she smiled at her. It was hard not to smile back. They shook hands and just as Tess was leading Jen into her office, they passed a man who gave Tess a dirty look before shutting his door.
"Um, Tess," Jenna began, but then thought better of it, amending herself in a rush. "Uh, do you want me to call you Tess or Healer Tess or Ms. Black or something?"
She shook her head lightly. "Who was that?" She asked, quietly gesturing to the closed office door where the man had been. |

| Tess laughed softly and shook her head. She never experienced this type of moment where someone was trying to actually be respectful towards her. She wondered briefly if she was like that when she was in her position.
"You can call me anything you want" she said amused. "but I wouldn't be too opposed to Tess"
She was confused at first, as to her second question, but then she remembered Anderson and wrinkled her nose, thinking about how to say this as professionally as possible.
"Well...that is Healer Anderson, colleague of mine, who-well....you'll soon learn that a part of this job is being professional despite of genuine dislike of certain people"
She wondered if that was proper enough so she sighed and chuckled a bit nervously.
"I'm the youngest Healer right now, a year your senior" she added. "And well...this doesn't usually happen where the newest Healer gets the mentor and not older colleagues get it."

| Jenna smiled. "Tess it is, then," she agreed. Jenna was taking in Tess's office; it was really nice, at least to Jen. If she were Tess, she wouldn't mind working in this space every day.
Contemplating the answer about Healer Anderson, Jenna asked thoughtfully, "So he's a bit of a floppy-wanded dementor-boggerer?" She used the childish school insult; Jen never had been comfortable with proper swears.
Jenna beamed. If Tess had been chosen to mentor her despite her lack of experience, that probably meant something good. "You must be an excellent healer, then, Tess," Jenna noted. |

| Tess laughed at the comment, despite the fact that she didn't want to let a colleague of her get insulted. But in all honesty, Anderson was a twit and he deserved all the insults possible. She grinned brightly at the clever girl in front of her and nodded.
"The biggest you could possibly imagine. I suggest that you avoid him like the plague" she said smirking. "His stupidity is contagious."
Her compliment though was something that she wasn't expecting. Her cheeks flushed slightly and she waved off the compliment, she was no better than others, in her mind she just happened to have people skills and not be a pompous arse.
"I'm really not...but thank you" she replied smiling. "Soon you'll be in my shoes, and being a known face in this hospital."
Flipping through the idle questions that she needed to ask, she looked up at her.
"Now! Would you like to specify in any part of medicine?"

| Jenna wrinkled her nose. "Ew, plaaguuuee," she squirmed. Anderson mustn't be a very pleasant person... nor intelligent. She was soon grinning back at the older woman. Jenna had a feeling she would enjoy having Tess as her mentor.
"You must be though," Jenna said truthfully. But the subject was soon changed and so she left it - her sister Jaycie was like that sometimes too.
She tucked a stray hair behind her hair. "Oh, I hope so. I already like it here," Jenna absently said, smiling.
Jen had a feeling Tess was going to be asking her the generalization questions like Marcus had, and she was right. She beamed and said, "I've always wanted to work with spell damage. And with the long-term patients, I think I would enjoy that." |

| Tess wasn't one to take compliments well; after all, in her family doubt was always implanted in her in anything she did. She appreciated it, and smiled shyly knowing she meant well. She admittedly liked Jenna already, because she was kind, obvious had good people skills, and would be an asset to the hospital.
She was honestly surprised at the fact she wanted to specify in that, but it was a coincidence considering how little people took interest. She herself couldn't really do that because of her emotions being on the edge. She picked up a quill and began to write it out under her files.
"That's a very dedicating wing, and I'm impressed of your interests there. Now, your specializing will take a while, but what qualities do you bring to St. Mungos.?"
