| Carey groaned, holding his arm out for that stupid lady to take another measurement. "Mother, couldn't we just have gotten the family tailor to have done this?" She looked up from her nails and shook her head replying that he better stop complaining unless he'd like to get his brother's old robes.
He rolled his eyes and lowered his arm, biting the inside of his cheek so as to try and hold himself back from making another comment. The thing about his mother was she meant what she said. Always. And he absolutely detested the idea of having to wear his damned brothers bulky, dirty robes. He didn't fancy himself a Ravenclaw anyways. Damned if he was though, because he'd be even more comparable to his brother. He scrunched his nose in dissatisfaction and then yelped when he was stuck with a needle.
"Watch what you're doing you-" He growled before cutting himself off and glared at his mother as she cleared her throat, not looking up from her charmed manicure. He huffed again and groaned, looking up at the ceiling, praying he could be done with this much sooner. He hardly even needed to be fitted, he had his measurements for his dress robes at him but his mother claimed it was a 'a first year's experience he needed to have.'
He then looked over, hearing the bell to the shop chime as another person walked in. |

| Jamie's wide eyes drank in everything around her as she felt her parents both hold a restraining hand on her shoulder, looking gob-smacked. Her mind whirred, she couldn't believe this was real. She was a witch! A giggle left her lips and she began to tug her parents along, dashing into stores with excitement. She wondered if she would make any friends at Hogwart's!
She decided she should read up on it, and was headed towards the book store when her parents stopped her and pointed at 'Eeylops Owl Emporium'. Her mother knew that Jamie adored animals, and the prospect of seeing some magical ones made Jamie run towards it, her parents battling the crowds to keep up. Jamie didn't purchase anything from the store, but made a mental note to come back later and see if she'd have enough money left.
She wasn't all to sure if she would, as the galleons they had were few and she knew that she'd only just manage to buy everything, so long as she bought it all secondhand. Within her arms now was a cauldron, which she struggled to carry out of the store when the owner stopped her, performed a charm and Jamie was delighted to see that the cauldron now floated behind her. "This is so cool!" She proclaimed to her mother as she entered the robes for all occasions store. As she did so, her parents said that they saw a family friend of theirs here, and were going to go talk to them. Jamie took the money from her parents and waved as they hurriedly walked over to visit their long time family friends, whom Jamie was surprised to note that they were a wizarding family.
A lady walked over to her and offered to fit her in a moment, so Jamie nodded her head before her eyes were drawn to an all to familiar face. She sighed and tried to move in un-noticed, but he had already spotted her. |

| Carey couldn't help but let out a small groan seeing that girl from the forest. He rolled his eyes, taking a deep breath. He wished his mother hadn't put off this trip. They could have gone sooner and avoided all the people crowded the streets, not to mention the newcomers wandering around always getting in the way. He didn't like being pushed around between the crowds with his mother trotting away a head of him. How she walked so fast in shoes like hers was beyond him.
He huffed down at the woman who was just about finished with him. And then he looked back to his mother. "Are we almost finished here? My legs ache and I'd like to get through the book store without being trampled." He complained.
His mother had smiled, although somewhat obviously a fake smile, towards the door and then then looked at Carey, telling him he best stop complaining or he'll get his brother's old books. He rolled his eyes again. She raised a carefully arched eyebrow, brushing a stand of hair that fell from her bun behind her ear, telling him if he continues with his attitude they'll leave right now and his father will take him later.
"Fine! Fine, sorry, geez." He sighed, looking back over at the girl at the door, furrowing his eyebrows. |

| Jamie averted her gaze from him and giggled as he was threatened by his mother, before she clapped a hand to her mouth. She smiled back at the fake smile with a full-out over-the-top friendly one. Once his mother had looked back towards him, Jamie waited for the other lady to return with some robes for her to try on. As she did, she ushered Jamie over to a mirror and a stool right next to him. Jamie almost requested to go somewhere else, but as she looked around she realised there was no where else.
She followed after the women with her head bowed and stood on the stall with her eyes firmly fixed on the ground. The lady measured various parts of her, her legs, her waist, her arms and such. After a moment, her parents entered the store once more and came over to her side. "Hi mum," she mumbled as the lady continued measuring her and measuring pieces of fabric. "I didn't know they were witches and wizards, what was their reaction to us?" She asked. Her mother explained that they had been bewildered beyond belief until she'd explained that it was Jamie who was the witch, which she said they hadn't been all that surprised with.
"I always was a freak, wasn't I?" Jamie joked with a small giggle. Her father frowned at this and said that she wasn't at all, and that those bullies didn't deserve to even be in her presence. Jamie giggled again, completely ignoring the other boy as she conversed with her parents. |

| Carey glared at her when he heard her giggle, and his mother cleared her throat again. She crossed her arms and Carey ignored it as he looked into the mirror to watch the other lady in the shop take her to the only spot next to him. Why did this have to take so long!?
He and his mother glanced over when her parents had walked in. His mother smiled at them as well, then looked back to her nails. Carey groaned as he was poked again with a needle. "Be more careful," he snipped quietly.
Both were listening to the conversation the others were having. Carey frowned and his mother looked up, taking a few steps to stand on Carey's other side, next to her parents. She spoke up when the girl called herself a freak, looking into the mirror at her saying in a heavy Irish accent. "Oh, darlin', never a freak. Just far more special 'n powerful than those rude Muggles." Carey rolled his eyes as mother turned and offered her hand to her parents introducing herself as Mrs. Katerina Matthews. |

| Jamie let out a loud proclamation of 'Ouch!' when she was pricked by a needle. She hadn't noticed that the lady had been fitting her in clothes, so busy with her conversation with her parents. The lady apologised quickly, but Jamie just smiled kindly at her. "Its okay, I was just startled is all." Jamie grinned. She didn't wince the next time she was pricked but merely pretended nothing had happened so as not to embarrass her. She looked at him as suddenly, his mother piqued up.
Her eyes widen at the way she referred to her parents, before she held her hand out. Her parents were polite however, and so they took her hand each and introduced themselves as Alan and Kaity Wright. Jamie, however, never took criticism of her parents, and her protective spirit picked up. She was always confident when it came to protecting those who were deemed less worthy than others for things they couldn't help.
"Excuse me? I don't care for how you talk about my parents." She snapped, her face red with anger. The ladies exchanged a glance before continuing their work on the children.

| His mother's smile fell when she snapped. "Mind your tongue girl, I meant no offense-" she looked between her and her parents. "I did mean offense to those that have teased you though, as I overheard that you were bullied. Unfortunate," She quipped. And she then rose her chin with a smalll smile, looking proud, "The parents of the witch contribute to her greatness. And I'd say genes went into that quick temper too." he smiled a little, trying to lighten the situation.
Carey then groaned loud to call attention. "Mother, can you stop trying to make friends? I'm sure they'd come over even if you owled them a random fancy invitation to one of your little dinners." The woman working on his measurements was now helping to remove the garment off him and he lept off the stool. "Now can we just go??"
His mother smiled and nodded to the three, apologizing for her son. She turned and strode towards him. As he passed by, she reached out her hand, quickly grabbing him by the ear and yanking as she took a few steps towards the door. He yelped, trying to pull away. |

| Jamie felt herself blush bright red, and she'd responded to readily. She felt very guilty now, and an odd respect for the woman. It was nice that someone who was the mother of such a rude boy would be quite so nice. Her parents waved her off and rather sheepishly apologised for her behaviour. "Im sorry," she chimed in. "I didn't mean to snap, i've just heard that some witches and wizards think they are better than muggles. I shouldn't be so quick to judge." She said quietly, her temper instantly gone and she returned to the shy girl she normally was.
Jamie shot the boy an annoyed look as she huffed at him. As if she'd ever be friends with him, she could only see them fighting. However, at the mention of a dinner her mothers eyes lit up and Jamie almost groaned. "You don't have to worry about us being friends, thats not going to happen." She said angrily, her eyes flashing with hurt again. She remembered that day, and she'd tried to be nice but he'd made it so darn hard. "It was nice to meet you." Jamie said, her lips forming a thin line as she tried not to laugh at his yelp. She already adored his mother.
Her parents looked quite shocked at her grabbing his ear, but they also looked quite annoyed with her for being so rude to him. Her mother leant over to her as the lady finished up pinning the fabric to her arms. "Why on earth - why are you so judgemental today? We've raised you better than to judge someone on knowing them for a few seconds!" Her mother scolded, and her father frowned at her. Jamie sighed and shuffled her feet as the lady began to pull the pins out. "He's the boy from the forest." She said in response. |

| She gave a light chuckle, waving her off and telling her not to worry. She said she even suspected that there weren't too many families she still acquainted herself that felt such ways, or at least that were so open about it. She nodded to her parents saying that it was only natural to be so defensive in a world that one knows nothing about. The woman told her to come back in about an hour for the robes.
As Carey's mother had dragged him away she'd turned back slightly and waved a hand at them, saying she would owl them at a later, more convenient time, perhaps talk to them at the bookstore later. Carey all the while was complaining, ignoring them, holding onto his mother's wrist. "Mother, let go, ow, you don't need any more people to come over-- ow!"
As the three were talking inside, the two walked by the window outside. She'd let go of his ear once out the door and was now scolding him, shaking her finger at him. Carey had snapped back at his mother and as they passed by, she smacked him on the back of the head. He groaned, rubbing the back of his head, turning and glaring in the window as they walked out of sight. |

| Jamie smiled at his mother, before watching as they left. She didn't miss the glare he sent at her through the window, and she resisted the urge to stick her tongue out in turn. She still didn't know his name, but she presumed that she would know it once they started at Hogwart's. She smiled as the lady finished with her clothing, before she left with her robe and idly chatted with her parents whilst her eyes followed him as he trailed after his mother.
Stupid prick, she thought to herself as her parents insisted they now go to the book store, and she happily obliged. |
