French History, Lesson Two - First Years Empty
PostSubject: French History, Lesson Two - First Years   French History, Lesson Two - First Years EmptyTue May 01, 2012 8:33 am

[[OOC: Wow, okay, sorry guys. I just got interesting in stuff I was looking up and got carried away, lol. You can just BS, you don't have to read it all. Like, really, wow. TL;DR version: Basically you just need to list what you know about European and American witch trials, as well as the secrecy laws, and share with the class.]]

Class List:
Danielle Lefevre
Mystic Moon
Basil Destry
Elle Cinqcents
Luc ran a hand through his hair as he walked over to his desk. He grabbed the stack of papers and passed them around to all the desks. They hadn't had a very productive lesson last time, so he took the liberty to make a worksheet of all the information he had wanted to go over, a brief summary of the chapter in their books. He felt much of the information in the text books was useless, at least in the earlier chapters. There were far more important events one could be learning more about. He walked over to the board flicking his wand. Witch Trials then appeared on the board, along with instructions to read the worksheet first and then page numbers in their books to the next section. He sat at his desk and folding his hands in his lap. He closed his eyes, looking relaxed. But he was quite tired. He still was getting used to the change in schedule, as he was so used to sleeping at around this time.

Work Sheet 1
This is information that may appear on the test at the end of the year.

1.The Muggle bible condemns witchcraft. (circa 560 B.C.) "Exodus 22:18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live."
"Leviticus 20:27 A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them."
2.This was intended to urge religious muggles to adhere to their own practices and not those of surrounding 'witch' tribes.
3.Negative ideals and denouncment of magic by muggles (especially highly respected religious muggles) grows stronger. (circa 420)
4. Evil in muggle religion is tied to witchcraft. Many witching communities start going into unofficial secrecy.(1273)
5. Witch Trials all over Europe emerge. (mid-1400's) Mass Hysteria breaks out. (1500's) French Muggle Wars causes major witch hunt break out. (1640s)
6. Ministries of Magic Create International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy Laws to protect it's people. (1689-92)

Bookwork Assignment 1
Section One - Valais Witch Trials The Valais witch trials consisted of a series of witch trials which took place in today's southeastern France 1428 and 1447. It can be considered as the first series of witch trials in Europe, fifty years before the starting point of European witch trials. The victims were also accused of being werewolves. The persecutions started in French-speaking Valais and spread to German-speaking Valais, and nearby valleys in both the French and German-speaking Alps. There were at least 367 people killed, the majority muggles.
Initiated by a civil war from 1415–1419, it was demanded in Valais that the authorities began an investigation against alleged noble enemies as witches and sorcerers. Anyone denounced as a sorcerer by more than three people was to be arrested. If they confessed, they were to be burned at the stake as heretics, and if they did not confess, they would be tortured until they did so.
This wave of poorly documented witch persecution stopped in 1447. This early eruption in France, Germany would later reemerge all throughout Europe less then one hundred years later in the famous European Witch Hunt Hysteria.

Question for Section 2: List what you already know about the European and/or American Witch Trials as well as what you know of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy and corresponding laws. Share with the class.

Elle sighed as she walked into class. This one was taught by the headmaster and she was ready to be punished for skipping lessons. She had just never been free before. She could really do things. It was all so new and exciting. She sat down and looked at the sheet. She had no clue what anything was. She was so confused. She had taken this class to learn about it. She had read a few things about witch trials like that they barely ever caught real wizards and witches. She wrote that down and waited. She was rather bored. She decided to levitate her paper while she waited. She never needed her wand. She honestly didn't know why she had one.

Danielle walked into the History lesson, and looked at the sheet placed in front of her, groaning inwardly. Honestly, this was hard to wake up to. She sighed, and then thought of what was good about it; she knew a lot about witch hunting. She took forth a piece of parchment and started jotting down notes on how mostly women were taken, how they were killed, and how one would know if it was a witch or not.

When she was done, she raised her hand and looked at the headmaster, wondering whether or not she should say what she had at once, or not.

(OOC: I know I'm supposed to just talk when I have the answer and stuff, but just unsure whether or not I'm supposed to reply at once, or wait until the rest of the class has joined)

[[Hmm, not to sure on that actually. But I guess for next time, if there's no one else or just one other person, then perhaps wait for me to call on. If there are some others you can just respond right away. I guess it just depends? D: Sorry if that's not very clear.]]

Luc nodded as two of the students entered already. He was glad another student had joined. Better late then never, he supposed. He figured it was difficult to keep up with the schedule and what classes were needed or now. He stood up, linking his hands behind his back, taking a few steps toward the new girl's desk. "Last lesson we skimmed over the beginnings and development of our world today. No worries, you'll catch up." he said quietly. It wouldn't be too hard for her to catch up in his opinion. History was like a grand story, that as long as you knew the plot you could fill in the details later. As long as she could follow it, it could be okay. He turned back around, walking slowly back to the front by the board. He saw the girls finish their writing. The seemed to be very diligent, it was great. He was feeling a bit impatient to get started though, and when the other students came in, they could be informed of what had been gone over.

He watched the new girl curiously as she levitated her paper. His attention was then caught by Miss Lefevre and he looked over to her risen hand. He nodded and motioned his hand toward her. "Miss, Lefevre, would you please care to begin by sharing what you've written."

French History, Lesson Two - First Years Empty

(OOC: Sounds pretty reasonable, yes ^^)

Danielle looked at the headmaster with a slight smile and nodded. "Well, I've written as you have on the sheet, that it all pretty much started with the Bible banishing all sorts of what they then thought was witchcraft, but was really only smart women. Men felt threatened by them and in their minds, they started playing it out as witchcraft, something that should be abolished. So, if you were a woman with wit and knowledge of herbs and the like, you were taken as a witch and either burned or stoned.

"How they knew they were witches or not, was rather absurd, especially when the women were stoned. They tied heavy stones to your limbs and threw you in the waters. If you floated, you were a witch and you were meant to be burned. If you sank, you were just a smart woman, but you died nonetheless. Not a very efficient way either. And one rarely caught a real witch, and the times one did so, the witch or wizard would simply put up a freezing charm so that the flames would only tickle, and the screams were of laughter," Dani said calmly.

She knew a lot about witch burning, not because she read about it, but because she had seen it. One of the hellish ghosts had given her the vision of their death, and she'd seen the horrible burn and felt the horrible warmth. She actually hated the subject of witch burning, but she'd be doomed if she didn't try to earn some housepoints. But the face of the burned witch was what she saw when she looked herself in the mirror. It was the ghost that prevented her to see what she even looked like. Dani grit her teeth in frustration, but then blocked the feelings out, looking up at the headmaster, and waited to hear what he thought about what she had said.

Mystic slipped into class a little late, she didn't mean too. She had stopped by once and the class was not open so she got busy and forgot to come back.

She noticed the Headmaster had a big assignment that they were suppose to discuss about. She had rarely had a chance to think about witch trials and know he wanted an answer.

She really was not ready to answer yet she still had to work on the questions first.

Elle sat there still saying nothing. She looked at the girl as she gave her answer and wondered how she knew so much already. She knew almost nothing. She looked over as another girl walked in. She moved her chair a bit away from the door and listened wanting to learn more about everything.
