Alcyone had lived a life of neglect. Her parents were far too busy to spend time with her, and were constantly moving from place to place. They fought all the time, for their marriage was arranged, and the only times they were not fighting was when they were yelling at her and discussing possible punishment methods with her tutors.
Alcyone is traumatised by her past, for when she was merely 4 her parents watched as she was tortured by her French tutor, who her parents had hired so that he could teach her to aid France in the war against Britain and Germany. She also watched as her younger sister, Capella, was raped and murdered by the same French tutor when Capella was 11.
Alcyone and Caelum had both witnessed her death, and grieving they returned to school with heavy hearts and Alcyone immediately fell into the arms of her boyfriend. After their first night together, Alcyone fell pregnant at age 16 and she went to the Order Of the Phoenix for protection. Her parents moved to France, and later Alcyone married the man who she had a child with, and became a member of the OOTP to help her home country, Britain.
