Elvira is the only daughter of the pureblood Stein family, as a result she was the one that they placed all of their hopes on to continue a line, however, when she grew up it became obvious that she was not the type of person that they would have wanted in their family with her talents for communing with the dead and for telling the future. After several attempts to change her with lots of different spells, they gave up, and attempted to focus on matching her up well in society. Elvira herself is more interested in developing her skills and used to run a small shop that she could do readings in, until she applied for the Durmstrang Positions.
